Spacious 5 bedroom villa Tuscany
The villa is immaculately furnished in an elegant, refined style. The owner has an eye for interior design and has furnished it so that it has a warm, homely feel whilst cleverly combining some antique pieces with more modern design. A 300 year old converted barn, the building retains many original features whilst being brought bang up to date with all the modern creature comforts guests expect. Original handmade pianelle ceiling tiles, chestnut beams, cut stone doors and beautiful ironwork sit happily alongside beautiful pieces of handmade furniture and modern furnishings. It is a stunning villa boasting high ceilings and open spaces filled with natural light.
Since the property is built into the hillside, both the lower and upper storey have ground floor access. The main entrance is on the upper floor where there is parking for several cars as well as a wide terrace with a pergola and tables and chairs adjacent to the pool.
On this upper level occupying the four corners of the villa are four bedrooms. All bedrooms have handmade beds of wood or wrought iron furnished with comfortable firm mattresses, Egyptian cotton linen and towels and plump comfortable pillows, tasteful furniture and beautiful antiques. Two of these bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, whilst the two other bedrooms share a bathroom with shower. The remaining bedroom is on the lower floor with direct access to the rear terrace with tables and chairs. This bedroom also has an ensuite bathroom. All the bathrooms are spacious and offer good natural light.
In the lakeview bedroom the four poster bed is strikingly offset against the exposed stone of the wall and the smooth wood of the floor. Double doors lead onto a balcony with a traditionally styled wrought-iron railing boasting a spectacular view of the lake, olive trees and the vineyard. Beside the door to the bathroom is a spacious walk-in closet, and other furnishings include comfortable chairs, and a handsome antique carved cabinet. The en-suite bathroom features a corner jacuzzi bathtub with room for two. It is positioned by a large window that opens into the branches of an enormous oak tree creating the illusion of bathing in a tree house. The floor, tub and sink surround are of travertine marble in soft tones. The bathtub is fitted with an overhead and a hand-held shower.
The sunset bedroom is the most grand and spacious of the bedrooms with a four metre high ceiling at the peak and one wall given over almost entirely to windows with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. The queen size bed is a hand-made wrought iron piece commissioned by a local craftsman. A wood stove positioned between the windows serves as focus for a small seating area, and there is also a pair of beautiful antique wardrobes. This room enjoys its own access to the front terrace through a pair of French doors.
A third bedroom on this floor houses a double bed and is adjacent to the ingresso where there is a baby grand piano and additional seating. This room has terracotta tiles, exposed stone walls and a high beamed ceiling.
The last bedroom on the upper floor is a charming room with twin beds and dual aspect windows providing 180 degree views over the Singerna River Valley.
Both these bedrooms share a bathroom with spacious shower tiled in Murano glass tiles.
The lower floor bedroom is equally spacious with a king size bed made of chestnut wood and a charming seating area arranged against an exposed stone wall. Doors lead from the bedroom onto the rear terrace. A huge ensuite bathroom boasts a bathtub with overhead shower and is tiled with travertine in subtle earthy tones. A washing machine conveniently sits in the cabinet beneath the counter. The bathroom has an additional door into the lower hallway.
Also on this floor is a wonderfully spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area, perfect for enjoying the company of familty and friends. The focal point of the room is a beautiful stone archway with glass doors, designed to maximise the spectacular views of the lake and surrounding countryside. A handmade chestnut table comfortably seats 10 whilst sofas and chairs are arranged around a wood burning stove, wonderful for those guests staying during the winter months.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped and furnished to a high standard with granite worktops and stainless steel appliances. All the cabinets are handmade using chestnut wood with wrought iron fittings. The owner has thought of everything and has even installed a second fridge for guests to keep drinks cool during the hot summer months. All the appliances are stainless steel and of quality manufacture. There is also a microwave, coffee maker, and other useful equipment. Bar stools are arranged around the counter, perfect for when you want a light bite or for comfort whilst you prepare a meal. If you want a night off cooking, we can arrange for a chef to come and cook for you while you take the opportunity to put your feet up. Alternatively, we can also arrange cookery classes at the villa for you. Please ask for more details.
Against the interior wall of the living area are wooden stair treads that seemingly float to the upper floor. A stereo system and television are discreetly positioned under the stairway.
Outside, the space is just as wonderful. Guests have use of a 200 square metre terrace adjacent to the pool where there is plenty of comfortable seating and loungers for lazy days in the sun. There is also a BBQ on this terrace. For those who want to escape the midday heat, the property is surrounded by mature oak trees which offer some cooling shade. The pool is in use from April to October.
For those with children, plenty of toys are provided for them to enjoy along with a sandpit and table football table. On a more practical level, two cots and a highchair are also available to use free of charge.
Situated about halfway between the medieval hilltop town of Anghiari and the village of Caprese Michelangelo, the property is well placed for excursions to both Tuscany and Umbria. Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Cortona and Gubbio are all within easy reach. Pisa is slightly further away and takes around 2.5 hours to get to as is Bologna which is 3 hours drive, but both are also possible in a day. Also nearby is the town of Sansepolcro, birthplace of the painter Piero della Francesca, where you can enjoy an evening stroll in its lovely historic centre.
