Impruneta apartment

Apartment Camelia is a beautiful 4 bedroom apartment occupying part of a 15th century villa. Set on top of a hill just outside Florence, it overlooks the Chianti region and is surrounded by 30 hectares of olive groves containing 6000 olive trees. Guests share a swimming pool with one other apartment. Apartment Camelia can be rented together with Apartment Azalea to offer accommodation for larger groups of between 12-14 people.

The property is steeped in history. In Renaissance times, the property belonged to the Gherardini family, the family of the famous Mona Lisa, immortalized by Leonardo Da Vinci. For the past 200 years, the property has been in the Calamai family and the current owners, Eleanora and Marco, lovingly look after the property and tend the olive groves.
Marco looks after the olive trees, following strict rules handed down over the generations. The olives are all picked by hand in order to keep each fruit in tact until it is crushed in the oil mill - a process that has to take place the same night that it has been picked. This, combined with the combination of different olive varieties used - the Frantoiano, Moraiolo and Leccino olive trees each have their own characteristics (taste, perfume and colour) - is what ensures this Tuscan oil is so special.
Whilst Marco looks after the groves, Eleanora offers guests the opportunity to share her passion for cooking, offering cookery courses. She can also arrange other excursions such as wine tasting at a local vineyard, a visit to a cheese producer or guided tours of the area. Eleanora will also be happy to cook for guests and, on request, guests have the opportunity to dine by candlelight in the wonderful frescoed salon of the villa.
The property is in an absolutely idyllic setting only 10km from Florence with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. Guests are welcome to wonder through the olive groves. They are also encouraged to help themselves to the wonderful home grown produce from the estate's fruit and vegetable patch. And for those times when you just want to relax, there is a swimming pool and beautiful gardens to enjoy.
The interior of Appartamento Camelia is beautifully furnished with family heirlooms and antiques. You enter into the kitchen which is well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, oven, stove, fridge and freezer. There is a large open plan living and dining area with dining table seating 8 and comfortable sofa and chairs. Full length windows reveal spectacular views - guests can enjoy the absolutely breathtaking vista over the pool into the olive groves and Chianti vineyards in the distance. Double doors also lead onto a terrace overlooking the inner garden filled with lemon trees and beautiful roses. There is outdoor furniture for al fresco dining. There are 4 bedrooms in total - 2 double bedrooms with the same spectacular views over the olive groves as well as 2 twin / double rooms towards the rear of the property. There are 2 bathrooms.

We had a fantastic stay. The Villa was ideal for our family group of 7 that included 3 couples and was lovely and spacious. Eleanora was a wonderful hostess who could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We enjoyed the swimming pool, had a lovely meal cooked by Eleanora one night and ideally we should have stayed a few days longer to take advantage of Eleanora's other skills. Absolutely no crticisms. I guess it took a couple of days to aclimatise to Italian driving but once we were more comfortable with this the drive in and out to Firenze became very easy. Many thanks again.

Just got back to my desk after a fantastic holiday in Italy. The apartment was excellent, and fully met our expectations.

Eleonora was a very good host and was very generous with her time offering suggestions and advice for our daily activities. We had an optional buffet meal on the last night with my extended family joining us from a nearby villa, so it was around 20 people in all. The food was very nice and the setting (the main house at the front of the villa) was ideal, and the cost very reasonable. I would thoroughly recommend the villa to anyone looking for accommodation for 8 in the Florence area. Also, you had suggested to me that we might like to go to the Cinque Terre region before the week at the villa. We did this and stayed for 3 days in the town of Riomaggiore. This was also very good, and a complete contrast the Florence region. The town was very unusual and interesting, and the area was great to explore. Thanks for the suggestion!
