Luxury chateau in France
Whilst the property dates from between the tweflth and seventeeth centuries, it has been completed renovated and restored throughout. The renovation works were completed at the beginning of 2017 and the results are simply extraordinary.
Inside, there are 5 bedrooms within the main house, each with ensuite bathroom. All the bedrooms are beautifully presented and extremely spacious and all have either a double bed or the option to have either a double or twin beds.
The master bedroom suite measures a staggering 90 square metres and boasts solid oak floors, original beams, stone windows from the twelfth century and newly repointed stone walls. It also has a kingsize bed, linen curtains and a free standing bath, carefully positioned to afford bathers stunning views over the valley and the nearby church. As well as this, it has a contemporary ensuite bathroom. The space oozes luxury.
The second bedroom is smaller but still measures 50 square metres. This is a lovely South facing room enjoying views over the garden. Again, it has repointed stone walls, original wooden flooring and a beautiful restored fireplace and walk in wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom has an Italian style shower and also overlooks the gardens. There is stylish wallpaper on the walls, linen curtains and a queen size double bed (180 cm x 200 cm).
The third bedroom is very similar and enjoys the same aspect but the bed here can also be separated into two single beds each with a width of 90 cm.
The fourth bedroom is located on the ground floor of the chateau and so is ideal for more elderly guests who perhaps want to avoid stairs. It's also ideal for those looking for a little bit more privacy as it also enjoys it's own separate entrance. Again, it is South facing and has wonderful original floorboards and stone walls. It is a rather quirky bedroom overlooking the orchard and neighbouring church. The room has a queen size double bed (180 cm x 200 cm) which can also be separated into twin beds if required. Smart striped wallpaper adorns the walls.
There is also a large attic space at the top of the main villa measuring approximately 100 square metres which serves as the fifth bedroom. This room has 2 single beds, a double bed and sofa bed. This space also has a lounge area with comfortable sofas, large TV with SKY channels and internet access. It serves as a great 'den' for children and teenagers to enjoy. Extra beds can be added here on request.
Finally, there is also an additional sixth bedroom within the pool house. Again, this building has been completely renovated and is ideal for a couple or small family as it has both a queen size double bed and separate single bed. The pool house also has it's own kitchenette area and bathroom and so also works well for those looking for a little more privacy from the rest of the travelling group. Like the rest of the chateau, it has a brand new bathroom / wet room with Italian shower.
The property has the added bonus of being within walking distance of an excellent restaurant - L'Auberge de Gascogne in St. Peys de Castets - which serves simple but excellent home style cuisine. There are also two additional restaurants within a 5 minute drive and half a dozen more within a 15 minute radius. However, for those who prefer to dine in, the chateau has an extremely well equipped kitchen. This is a charming room and has been furnished in the style typical of this region. It has a range style oven and hob as well as farmhouse sink and coffee machine. A large wooden table provides the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast together.
For those looking for a more formal dining space, the dining room in the property is stunning, with deep blue walls contrasting with the cream cupboards, stone fireplace and oak flooring. An antique oval dining table seats ample guests on stylish grey padded chairs. Deep blue curtains add a further touch of elegance.
There are also 2 living areas within the chateau, both of which are furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs.
The chateau is perched on the hill of St Pey de Castets, 15 minutes from St Emilion, 50 minutes from Bordeaux and 25 minutes from Libourne. The Atlantic Ocean is just over an hours drive and is well worth a trip, particularly if you are a keen surfer as the wide sandy surf beaches run all the way from here down to Spain in South and La Rochelle in the North. Or for those preferring to stay on dry land, why not climb Europe's largest sand dune - Pyla. However closer to home, just a few minutes down the road is the stunning River Dordogne, which is the perfect setting for a walk or bike ride along the waters edge. Alternatively, why not rent a kayak and explore the ancient villages and restaurants which are scattered along its banks.
